Fall 2008 Useful Information for New M.A. Students
The Department of Economics – Our department is located at 19 West 4th Street
Advising – David Harper, Director of Graduate Studies for the master's program, will be available for advisement prior to the start of the fall semester 2007. He has office hours on Thursday, August 23rd, 4-6pm, and Tuesday, August 28th, 4-6pm. During the semester, his regular office hours will be on Tuesday afternoons (probably 3:00-5.00 p.m). To make an appointment with Professor Harper, you must contact Nicki Rivers at vr26@nyu.edu or 212-998-8933.
Registration - You may register via Torchtone (212-995-4747) or online (www.albert.nyu.edu) or through your www.home.nyu.edu computer account. (See below for information on setting up your NYU computer account.) Remember to register for both lecture and lab for the Applied Statistics & Econometrics I course (G31.1101). If you have problems, contact Nicki Rivers at vr26@nyu.edu or Marge Lesser at ml6@nyu.edu
ID Cards - You will need to go to the NYU ID card center located at 7 East 12th Street between 5th avenue and University Place to have your picture taken and pick up your NYU student identification card. Office hours are Mon- Thurs. 9-6 and Fri. 10-4. Please bring a valid official ID on your initial visit. If you haven’t arranged for your card by the end of July, please call the Card Center at 212-443-2273.
Computer Account - You will need your NYU ID card with your NetID imprinted on it. From an ITS (Information Technology Services) computer lab or from any Internet-connected computer, open Netscape or Internet Explorer. Connect to http://start.nyu.edu for online startup assistance & information, & follow the instructions. If you have problems, go to an ITS computer lab for assistance.
Department Distribution List – The department maintains an electronic mailing list. This list is used to keep you updated on department policies, events, course changes, job opportunities, etc. Thus, it is important that you email your name and NYU email address to Nicki Rivers (vr26@nyu.edu). The subject line should read "Department Distribution List".
